USAID Civic Initiatives Support Program

About us

The USAID Civic Initiatives Support Program (USAID CIS) aims at cultivating a strong and vibrant civil society in Jordan through supporting a broad range of civic initiatives. USAID CIS is a five-year program (2013-18) implemented by FHI 360, a nonprofit human development organization dedicated to improving lives in lasting ways by advancing integrated, locally driven solutions.

The program is committed to a set of core principles that guide the development and implementation of all project interventions, including:

• F’RSA: Flexible, Responsive, Simple and Accountable: USAID CIS grants will be executed through open and flexible eligibility criteria for accepting proposals and will offer a range of grant types that respond to the applicant’s proposed program goals considering grantee’s capacities and previous performance.

• Inclusion and Diversity: Gender equality, the rights-based approach, inclusion, good governance and transparency are integral to USAID CIS’s operating model and form the core foundation on which all program activities are designed.

• Demand-Driven: Grants, capacity building support and the promotion of civil society-government dialogue are demand-driven. The program will provide the necessary technical, strategic and financial support to Jordanian civil society to implement their own initiatives in line with their missions and will continue to design new responses to opportunities and challenges as identified by civil society.

• Learning by Doing: USAID CIS will capture lessons learned and incorporate them into future activities and expand on new approaches that demonstrate aggregable change.
